James Stewart and George C. Scott lead the cast. Otto Preminger directed this film which was adapted by Wendell Mayes from the best-selling novel of the same name written by John D. Voelker whose pen name is Robert Traver. Voelker based his novel on a true-life murder case in which he was the defense attorney.
