The Great Escape is a classic. Favourite movie of all time? I’d say it’s right up there in the top 3. This is a war film based on actual events and it is indeed historically accurate, more than it is given credit for. The cast is an ensemble of amazing actors. While we are Steve McQueen fans, the other performances are equally or even more impressive.

Here is a short list of some of these actors, Richard Attenborough, James Garner, Donald Pleasance, Charles Bronson and Gordon Jackson are all excellent. Good too are James Coburn, James Donald, David McCallum, Charles Bronson, Angus Lennie, John Leyton, Nigel Stock, Robert Graf and Hannes Messemer as the sympathetic Commandant.
